This is a nice run on single track (unless we choose to add
the road section). Mud Lake itself was formed as a reservoir when a dam was
built over 100 years ago. It is usually dry in summer so its effectiveness is
questionable. Mud Lake's main claim to fame is that NASA test pilot Jack McKay
crashed the second X15 into the lake bed in 1962. There is also a very old
cemetery tucked into the sand and sagebrush on the west side of the hill.

DIRECTIONS
From southbound SR 88, turn Left onto Kimmerling Way.
Just over 1.5 miles later you will reach Tillman Lane, just past the post office on your right.
We generally meet
in the Silver Strike parking lot on the right, just before Tillman, and decide whether
or not to drive to the trailhead or run the extra half mile down the
road.
We usually carpool from Stateline Burger King.
